Pests Still Pose Threat in Winter.

Snow may be covering the ground, but dog owners must still be vigilant about pest control. Changing climatic conditions effect flea and tick 'seasonality' so that each yer has the potential to differ from the previous year. Year round treatment is the best way to ward off fleas and ticks and we recommend keeping up with your usual forms of treatments. Topical applications such as Front Line are very effective but may take a few days to build up in your dogs system. Brewers yeast has also been proven to be effective as well as a diet containing garlic. Flea collars can be somewhat effective but may only prevent the pests from settling around your dog's head and face. Flea sprays are very effective at killing off fleas but there effects only last a short time. Remember that a proactive approach is best in dealing with fleas and ticks however, if your dog has a large infestation we would be happy to give them a flea bath for you. The effects are instant and will repel fleas and ticks for up to 48 hours. If your dog has a flea problem please give us a call at 908-359-pets to schedule an appointment and please remember to let us know of the flea problem before hand.

The Holiday season is upon us and with that brings the Holiday rush. The dog grooming industry always fluctuates and is normally busiest from the end of November until the end of December. Then will normally experience a slow period from the end of January until the beginning of spring. From then on through the summer groomers will normally maintain a steady number of clients until September Then grooming slows down again usually until mid October and will remain steady from then until November. Through the varying flow of business Furry tails regularly admits students and conducts varying class sizes. Class sizes generally are never that large so that each student will receive personalized attention. Schedules can be tailored to better fit each students needs and if required students can attend a minimum of one day a week. Students attending one day a week will complete the course in a year and students that attend the maximum number of days can complete the course in as little three months. After completing the course and demonstrating a competent ability students receive there state recognized grooming certificate. Grooming is an industry in high demand. Most if not all of our students have gone from our program directly into a grooming position and a few of our former students now run there own shops. If you feel this is a profession you are interested in please give us a call (908-359-pets) so that we can answer any questions you may have. If you would like to visit us so that you can see the shop and answer any questions first hand we would be more then willing to meet with you. Please call us to arrange an appointment.

Don't get left out in the snow this season. Winter is still a crucial time to maintain regular grooming for your dog. It's important to keep there coat clean a free of debris along with keeping the pads of there feet shaved to prevent the build up of ice and snow which can cause skin irritation as well as serious damage to the pads. Although we do haircuts and baths by appointment if you just need your pooches feet trimmed, nails clipped and filed, or even just a little touch up give us a call (908-359-pets). If we have the room and time we would love to help you out and it only will take a few moments. If your furry friend needs a full grooming or even just a bath we would love to schedule an appointment for you. We look forward to hearing from you.
