Things to look for in a Pet Grooming School

Things to look for in a grooming school to ensure you’re getting the best education

•Ensure that the pet grooming school is registered with the state they do business in – the school should be approved by the Department of Education

•Make sure you will receive a “certification in pet grooming” from the school at the completion of your course

•A pet grooming course should be “hands on” – you cannot learn to groom an animal from a book.  Make sure the school lets you work with real animals

•All aspects of pet care should be taught – bathing, grooming, hygiene, anatomy, personality of the different breeds

•Each student should have the opportunity to bathe and groom all breeds of dogs and cats – that’s how you learn the industry cuts for every breed

•Students should be taught to explain the care and maintenance of the animal to its owner, so they can keep their pets looking good and keep their skin and fur healthy

•A course in shop management should be included in the program

•Students should be taught to use all required grooming tools and feel comfortable with each

Stress Free Pet Grooming

You’ve done all your research and found the best PET GROOMING SALON for your pet. You’ve called there and spoken to the staff and asked all the right questions, and gotten all the right answers. But you are still concerned about leaving your pet for a few hours with virtual strangers. Most dogs and cats will experience a certain level of anxiety when being away from their home, but there are a lot of things you can do to reduce the stress your dog or cat may feel when going to a pet grooming salon.

The following tips will help you and your dog relax a little more:
1. Keep your dog on her regular diet. Stress can cause gastro-intestinal issues, no need to exacerbate that by switching up her food!

2. Set a good example by remaining calm and collected! Your dog is super sensitive to your feelings and emotions. Allow plenty of time when you drop your pet off so that you aren’t rushed. Say a quick goodbye and leave knowing you have chosen a great grooming salon and the staff will take good care of your pet.

3. Keep in mind that regardless of the pet grooming salon you choose, and how well adjusted and outgoing your pet is, your pet may experience a certain level of stress. Remind yourself that you’ve done a great job choosing the perfect groomer. Then try to relax a little yourself.  Just think how beautiful he/she is going to look after a day of pampering!

Good Pet Grooming

Good pet grooming is an essential aspect in the maintenance of your pet’s good health and happiness. Pet grooming is two-fold–to maintain the beautiful appearance of your pet and to prevent health issues from developing. Some dogs and cats love going to the grooming salon and getting pampered, while others are not so happy to be there. It’s just a matter of getting them accustomed to the grooming routine.

A pet grooming salon has all the proper tools to make your pet as comfortable as possible while being groomed.  If the owner has the right tools and supplies, it can make home pet grooming easy too. A vital part of pet grooming is brushing the dog’s coat. Make sure you have the right brushes to groom your pet depending  on the type of coat the pet has.

You need a blunt tipped scissors to trim the hair between grooming.  Special pet nail clippers for trimming the dog’s nails must be purchased too.

Pets need their own pet grooming supplies. Never use human shampoo, conditioner and soaps-they have ingredients that are too harsh for the sensitive skin of your pet.  Never use human toothpaste on your pet. It may contain ingredients harmful to the dog. Your grooming salon will offer this service to you-using toothpaste made especially for pets.

Home grooming in between professional pet grooming can keep your pets looking their best at all times, but make sure you bring your pet to a professional groomer every few months to keep him looking and feeling his best.
