•Make sure you will receive a “certification in pet grooming” from the school at the completion of your course
•A pet grooming course should be “hands on” – you cannot learn to groom an animal from a book. Make sure the school lets you work with real animals

•Each student should have the opportunity to bathe and groom all breeds of dogs and cats – that’s how you learn the industry cuts for every breed
•Students should be taught to explain the care and maintenance of the animal to its owner, so they can keep their pets looking good and keep their skin and fur healthy
•A course in shop management should be included in the program
•Students should be taught to use all required grooming tools and feel comfortable with each
